🦮 Public Access Test (PAT)
At Empowered Paws, I offer formal Public Access Testing for assistance dogs. This test ensures your dog can safely and confidently accompany you in public spaces, meeting all legal and welfare requirements.
The assessment takes around 2–3 hours and is conducted in real world settings such as shopping centres, cafes, and public transport (if applicable).
💡 Note: The PAT fee applies regardless of whether your dog passes or requires further preparation.
✅ Before Booking Your PAT
To book your assessment, you’ll need:
- A brief letter from your medical practitioner confirming your disability
- A Veterinarian Declaration Form completed by your vet (I’ll send this to you after we chat, or you can download it below)
🧪 What I’ll Be Assessing
- Calm, safe, and consistent behaviour in busy environments
- Reliable obedience, even around distractions like food, noise, and people
- Confidence and control when using public transport, lifts, doors, etc.
- Your dog’s ability to support your specific needs, where relevant
- Evidence that your dog’s welfare and public safety are always prioritised
⚠️ Things That Will Cause an Automatic Fail
- Aggressive behaviour toward people or other animals
- Lack of handler control
- Visible distress or welfare concerns
- Unsafe interactions with the environment
If your dog is not quite ready, I’ll provide supportive feedback and a training plan to help you prepare for a future assessment.
